Environmental Policy

Our commitment to reaching Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and how we measure and reduce our environmental impact.

Section 01

Commitment to Net Zero

We Are Care Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 across our UK operations.

We maintain an environmental management system that identifies our environmental impacts, sets measurable reduction objectives and is reviewed annually by a director. It is available on request.

Our Carbon Reduction Plan is available on request where a procurement or onboarding process requires it.

Section 02

Why this matters to us

We Are Care exists to improve care across the UK. Care is delivered by people travelling to settings, supported by digital systems that run continuously. Both have an environmental cost. As a social enterprise we treat that cost as ours to measure and reduce, not to disclaim.

Section 03

Our commitments

We commit to:

  1. Measure our greenhouse gas emissions annually, covering Scope 1, Scope 2 and the Scope 3 categories defined in the Cabinet Office reporting standard, and publish them where a procurement process requires it.
  2. Set and report against dated, measurable reduction targets.
  3. Maintain a register of our environmental aspects and impacts, reviewed at least annually.
  4. Comply with all environmental legislation applicable to our operations, maintained in a compliance obligations register.
  5. Operate as a remote-first organisation, eliminating fixed office energy consumption and routine commuting.
  6. Extend the working life of the IT equipment we own, and reuse, redeploy or dispose of it through WEEE-compliant providers.
  7. Select suppliers and hosting providers with regard to their environmental performance and published decarbonisation commitments.
  8. Support local placement of carers to reduce assignment travel distance.
  9. Review this policy and the underlying system annually, and correct shortfalls through a defined corrective action process.

Section 04

Accountability

Overall accountability for environmental performance rests with Julian Humphreys, a director of We Are Care Limited. Responsibility for maintaining the aspects register, compliance register and review cycle is set out in our environmental management system, which is available on request.

Section 05

Governance and review

This policy is tracked monthly within Baton alongside our wider policy estate, with a named owner, a review date and a full version history. Baton flags review dates and relevant regulatory changes. The policy receives a full review at least annually, or sooner where operations, legislation or our emissions profile change materially.
